Ready to find your level?
24 multiple-choice questions, from easiest to hardest. Takes about 5 minutes. No signup, no tricks, instant result.
How the test works
The test has 24 multiple-choice questions, 4 for each of the 6 CEFR levels, starting easy and getting harder. You see instantly which ones you got right, and at the end you receive your estimated level with a per-level breakdown. To pass a level you need at least 3 of its 4 questions right, so guessing does not fool the result for long.
Quick test vs official exam
An online test like this measures grammar and vocabulary in a few minutes and gives you an honest snapshot. An official exam (TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge) measures all four skills, costs money and works as a certificate. Use the free test to find your starting point, improve, and only pay for an exam when you need the paper. You can also estimate how many words you know with our English vocabulary test.
